Spice, Shaggy, And Sean Paul Heat Things Up On GMA

By NAN ET Editor News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. June 11, 2021UPDATED: Dancehall superstars Spice, Shaggy, and Sean Paul heated things up earlier this morning on Good Morning America, 11 days into Caribbean American Heritage Month. The three performed their collaborative, hot and spicy hit, “Go Down Deh,” from a virtual location on the ABC GMA Summer Series Concert. The three were also interviewed by the GMA hosts, including Michael Strahan, as Shaggy quipped that given his third appearance on the show, he “feels like family” and was waiting on his invitation to join the cast. He called the collaboration with Spice and Paul, whom we referred to as “close friends,” “epic.” “They are part of my genre. They are part of my culture and its an amazing opportunity to do something like this,” he said. “I live in Jamaica. So to bring everything home and start from the nucleus here is a great vibe,” Sean Paul added. “Big up Spice and Shaggy for having me on the song. Epic tune. Big up all the fans too who are enjoying it.” Asked what the “spirit of dance hall is,” Spice told viewers it is “a fun, high energy type of music … it represents the Jamaican culture.” She also went into the historical aspect by noting that “dancehall was birthed by reggae which was increasingly characterized by a faster pace rhythm. … its just a fun type of genre.” Spice also filled fans in on how to do the “Go Down Deh,” warning: “You have to have strong knees.” The three also performed “Angel,” “Frenz,” “Deport Them” and “Like Glue.” On June 15th, the trio is also set to appear on the popular American late-night talk show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, which is hosted by comedian and producer Jimmy Kimmel. The song’s Jay Will (Game Over) directed music video has received over 10 million views on YouTube since its release on May 1. Go Down Deh will appear on Spice’s debut album, TEN, which is executive produced by Shaggy and will be released next month via VP Records.
