Nicki Minaj breaks silence on dad's death, reveals love for The Crown

Nicki Minaj said the death of her father was the most devastating loss of her life.

In a letter to fans posted on her website, the rapper addressed the death of her father Robert Maraj, who died following a hit and run in February.

“Tho I can’t really bring myself to discuss the passing of my father as yet; I can say it has been the most devastating loss of my life. I find myself wanting to call him all the time. More so now that he’s gone. Life is funny that way. May his soul rest in paradise. He was very loved & will be missed,” she wrote.

Minaj posted the letter following the announcement on Instagram Live that she was re-issuing her 2009 mixtape Beam Me Up Scotty.

The Trinidad-born rapper has been absent from social media since January.

She gave fans an insight into her life during her hiatus.

She spent a lot of time watching Netflix, particularly The Crown.

“The great Kenya Barris recommended I watch it & I’ve been hooked ever since. It’s safe to say I’ve watched every single episode of every single season at least 5 times each. Lol. Yikes. I Know. I can’t get enough of Clare Foy’s perfect face. I want to eat it. It just does the right thing in every single scene. Lmao,” she wrote.

She also praised Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom as one of the best pieces of work she has had the pleasure of viewing in a really long time.

“GENIUS!!! With a capital everything!!!” she gushed.

Giving fans a peek into her life post-pregnancy, Minaj, who gave birth to a son in September, said she can’t stop eating ice and is up to 20 cups a day.

Minaj also revealed how much she is enjoying motherhood.

“I’ve also been completely overwhelmed with joy & fulfilment in the world of Papa Bear. Each day creates a new & fascinating, magical memory that I hide far away into a little cute compartment of my heart; vowing never to forget any of it. Like, He’s just a cute liddo marshmellow, I can’t take it,” she said, revealing that his favourite movie is Madagascar (Escape 2 Africa) and that he said the word mama which she captured on camera.

Minaj fans would also be happy to know that she is working on a new album. She didn't give much details but said she can't wait to share the new vibes.
