Music producer Tixie has died

The local music industry is mourning the death of well-known producer and engineer Donald 'Tixie' Dixon who passed away on Thursday after a long battle with cancer.

He had first been diagnosed with cancer in his nose, and had successfully fought the first diagnosis. However, the cancer returned and metastasized.

Reggae singer Sizzla paid tribute to the late producer on Friday, when he posted to Instagram, “Great engineer Tixie R.I.P nuff works you do fah wi as artistes in this music industry,” alongside a photo of himself and Tixie.

When contacted, reggae star Anthony B acknowledged the producer's death. "I heard yesterday, I am very sad," he told Loop News.

Another music insider told Loop News that he heard about Tixie's death but had been surprised because he hadn't known that he was sick. "He had been doing chemotherapy, and I didn't even know he was sick until I spoke to him on the phone and he could barely speak and his son took the phone and say 'Daddy really sick right now'. This is tragic, my condolences to his family," the source said. Tixie developed a tight bond with artistes while he worked as an engineer at Anchor Recording studios between 1995 to 2020. He produced 'What's Up' and 'Legendary' on Sizzla 's 'Blaze Up The Chalwa' album for Jet Star/Kings of Kings. He mixed Sizzla's 'The Messiah' in 2013. He was the engineer and the mixing engineer on Lady G's 'Rated G'. He produced other Sizzla songs like 'Love Being Together' for his own True Love Records imprint. He did audio production on Sizzla's Life in 2004, and mixed and did engineering work on Sizzla's 2010 Crucial Times album. Among his other projects, he was the vocal engineer on Junior Kelly's Urban Poet in 2015, and did engineering work on Bunny Wailer's 'Communication' for Solomonic. What's more, he was the engineer on Gun Shot (as Donald Tixie Dixon) which appeared on Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday (Roman Reloaded) album. He also did engineering work on Mighty Diamonds* / Anthony B - Pass The Kutchie ‎(7") and on Bounty Killer's 'The Best Of Bounty Killer' ‎.
