Lil Nas X shows love for Dominica on new album Montero

US rapper Lil Nas X and the Nature Isle Dominica have a lot more in common than one would think.

The commonality is his father gospel singer Robert Stafford, who was born on the island.

The 22 year old, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, revealed this in an interview on the Breakfast Club as he promoted his self-titled debut album “Montero”.

In a previous interview with Variety, the Old Town Road singer explained that his ultra-religious father has been one of his biggest supporters since he came out as gay a few years ago.

On April 15, Stafford praised his son on Instagram for the work he has done to assist his birth-mother, Shawnita Hathaway,in her struggle with drug addiction.

“Despite what people say @lilnasx is the greatest kid a parent can be BLESSED with,” he captioned a photo of him, Lil Nas X and Hathaway.

He explained to the Breakfast Club that the song “Tales of Dominica”, which is the tenth track on the album, was written, “from the point of view of when I first started making music.”

“I was on an air mattress at my brother’s house. And there was a lot of domestic violence…they were always fighting with their girls and whatnot. And randomly like f**king and shooting up into the sky and I was like damn this is a lot of f**king chaos,” he stated.

“It was like, you know, talking about how I didn’t want to go back home because I knew my stepmother was gonna like kinda s**t on me. And it’s because she wanted the best for me I guess.”

He explained that he choose to name the track Tales of Dominica “because I feel like Dominica is like that beautiful place.”

“It’s kind of like tales of this beautiful place but it’s the worst part of my life at that point.”

Lil Nas X has never been to the island.

The video for "Tales of Dominica" has already passed 1 million views on Youtube.
