Diddy cancels New Years Eve party amid COVID-19 concerns

Sean 'Diddy ' Combs has cancelled the 2020 staging of his annual New Year's Eve party.

In a message posted on his social media platforms, he said the risks are just too great.

The music mogul posted on Instagram: "To all my friends in efforts to keep everyone safe and healthy unfortunately we are not having a NYE party this year. I hope everyone had a blessed holiday and wish you all the best for the new year."

The announcement came as a surprise to many as several other celebrities have come under fire for what has been described as their flagrant disregard for the pandemic and its far-reaching consequences.

Just last month Rita Ora apologised for a 30th birthday party in Notting Hill, while Kendall Jenner pulled out all the stops for a Halloween party which featured, Justin Bieber and Jaden Smith as guests.

Known for throwing uber-exclusive, decadently lavish events, Diddy was joined by a star-studded cast of family and friends to celebrate his 51st birthday in the Turks and Caicos Islands early last month.

Among those in attendance were Nas, Mary J Blige, French Montana, DJ Ruckus, Draya Michelle and celebrity DJ M.O.S who set the tone for the evening, with a music set which featured Diddy's hits of yesteryear.

The lavish event ended with an impressive fireworks display.

Diddy said despite the fact that vaccines are being rolled out, the coast is not yet clear and the COVID-19 pandemic must be taken seriously.
