It is both the juiciest and most dismal piece of gossip from Lady Whistledown yet as actor Regé-Jean Page who played the dreamy Duke of Hastings in Season One of Bridgerton will not be returning for Season Two of the steamy show on Netflix.
Under its Bridgerton Twitter handle, a notice from Lady Whistledown's Society Papers confirmed the sobering news.
“Dearest Readers,
While all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings. We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family. Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer-more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear.
Yours Truly,
Lady Whistledown”
Actor Regé-Jean Page also confirmed the news via his Twitter page stating:
“Pleasure and a privilege! An honour to be a member of the family - on and off screen, cast, crew and incredible fans - the love is real and will just keep growing.”
The revelation has been met with mixed reviews as those who read the Bridgerton books say they are not surprised while others have been left in the doldrums.
Fans took to Twitter to express their feelings:
“Why?? Yes your character isn’t in the next set of books but could have been gently worked out!! Heartbroken!”
“Best of luck to you! You will be desperately missed. Your name will always be synonymous with “The Duke”. I hope to see you in many projects to come.”
“Ahhh man Regé!!!! I am gutted you're not coming back but wish you nothing but happiness xx”
“Not sure I will continue to watch now.”
Recently at the NAACP Image Awards, Regé-Jean Page won the award for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series for his performance in Bridgerton.
